“Bring on the Clowns” fundraiser will  help offset the legal costs for
community activists arrested during the police riot at the Britannia
Community Centre on October 3, 2002. A small,peaceful demonstration
against Premier Gordon Campbell's cuts to education turned ugly when
police attacked and arrested a United Church minister wearing a clown
nose and eight others, including two juveniles and a journalist.
Those arrested were taken to a parking lot and threatened before being
strip-searched and held for 27 hours in jail.

The March 27 “Bring on the Clowns” benefit will be held at the Ukrainian

Cultural Centre, 805 East Pender Street, Vancouver. It will feature
music by DJ Champagne, the McGillicudy's (a great celtic/punk band) and
Harrow as well as surprise guests and great food. Doors open at 8:00
p.m.
