Employment Notice
Student Union Project Workers
(Temporary Positions)
The Simon Fraser Student Society invites applications for three positions to assist with organizing and providing service to Departmental Student Unions and Graduate Caucuses at SFU's Burnaby Mountain and Harbour Centre Campuses.
50 hours will be scheduled over the first 5 weeks of the Fall semester for each position.
These are temporary positions with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 2396, at $17.82 per hour. The
SFSS is an equal opportunity employer.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Initiating Departmental Student Union and Graduate Caucus activity on campus through activation of the member-ship, in concert with the Student Union Organizer and the Member Services Officer.
2. Classroom speaking presentations; preparing and distributing written materials to Student Union and Graduate
Caucus executive committees.
3. Convening, attending, and maintaining Student Union Resource Office records of Student Union and Graduate
Caucus meetings and elections of officers.
4. Hosting information seminars for Student Union and Graduate Caucus executive committees and intesested stu-
dents about Student Society constitutional requirements, policies, procedures, campaigns, services and resources.
5. Establishing and maintaining current Student Union and Graduate Caucus contact lists.
6. Maintaining regular office hours.
7. Reporting weekly to the Student Union Organizer and the Member Services Officer.
8. Preparing a written report at the end of the organizing period every semester.
Required Skills and Experience
1. Demonstrated knowledge of issues confronting students.
2. Knowledge and understanding of Departmental Student Union structures and role within the Simon
Fraser Student Society.
3. Participation (active membership) in an SFSS Student Union or Graduate Caucus.
4. Political organizing experience, preferably in educational environments.
5. Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and producing promotional
materials.
6. Good time-management skills and ability to work autonomously.
7. Flexibility in scheduling hours of work.
