CEN National Council Elections - Youth Representative!
The YEN is looking for one super person (18-27 years of age) to represent
the voices of Canadian youth environmentalists on the Canadian Environmental
Network (CEN) National Council (NC). Oh yeah, it could be you!
Rob Maguire is stepping down and has had a great time in this position over
the past year . He'll tell you all about it :
"As the Youth Caucus rep on the CEN National Council, you hold the
gargantuan responsibility of representing youth from across this vast
country in decisions made by the Council. Asides from holding one precious
vote in formal Council meetings such as the Annual General Meeting, you can
also play an active role in the CEN through participation on a variety of
committees, such as the Policy & Bylaws committee (which is nowhere as dull
as one might assume). Being on the National Council, however, is a much
grander experience than simply attending meetings and conference calls.
You'll have the opportunity to travel to other parts of the country to
attend workshops and government consultations, where with any luck your
voice will be taken into consideration in drafting and implementing federal
policy. All in all, being on the National Council is a great learning
experience in which you'll develop your skills while making a difference and
meeting fantastic people from across Canada who share similar passions."
The National Council is the body that officially represents the CEN's
membership. NC members bring the perspectives of their constituencies to
bear on the running of the organization. NC members are the voting delegates
at the Annual General Meeting, where they elect the Board of Directors,
consider bylaw amendments, approve the financial statements and provide
direction to the Board and hear appeals. They report regularly to their
constituencies.
Members of the National Council shall be elected or appointed for a
three-year term, and shall, if qualified, be eligible for re-election for
one additional consecutive term.
A candidate for the National Council must be a Canadian citizen or landed
immigrant, and must be a member of a CEN or YEN member group (if you get
this email, chances are you're a member, even if you don't know it!). CEN
staff or staff of the CEN's affiliates, caucuses or committees are
ineligible, as is the immediate family of a NC member. For more
information on the National Council and the role of its members see:
http://www.cen-rce.org/eng/governance.html
See the application form below. Please send your applications to Chantal
Bois at the CEN ( chantal at cen-rce.org ) by 26 July, 2004.
For more info on the CEN, visit www.cen-rce.org.
Looking forward to, as always, lots of good candidates!
