THE WORKING CLASS CAFE, episode III:
A RESOLUTION FOR REVOLUTION
JANUARY 15th 2004, 8:30PM
@ PALESTINE COMMUNITY CENTRE
1874 Kingsway, near Victoria

Howdy there friends, as far as were concerned you are all welcome. Come
to the Working Class Cafe, there isnt a live show like it in Vancouver.
We have begun a new year and I have made my resolutions. Why just this
week a judge sentenced me to one year of probation, its ugly but most
things are for the working class. Crimminalized so young! If nothing
else I shall go out of my way to organize for you a show on Thursday even
better than the last two whoppers, complete with music, speakers,
discussion, socialising, poetry and laughter. The last two episodes have
been smashingly successful, so youll be damned if ya miss the third..
HOST:
Joey Only, a local organizer, writer, artist and a voice in the
wilderness. A fluent songwriter of militant bluegrass and folk stories.
Listen to the interviews and songs of Joey and Dave on Sound Resistance,
Thursday January 23rd 1PM, on 102.7FM CFRO, CO-OP Radio. Catch us every
4th Thursday of the month.
SPECIAL GUESTS:
George Feenstra. A minister who really does good. Chastised for allowing
homeless to camp behind the church. Beaten by the Vancouver Police
Department for dressing as a clown at a Gordon Campbell protest, which set
the events of the Britannia Police Riot in motion.
Altona Manitoba. A trainhopping young anarcho-hillbilly, banjo
strumming, bluegrass crooning, anti-capitalist!! Perhaps if Magnolia
comes with a fiddle, and Joey doesnt leave, 1/2 the Haints will be there
for us to play some songs.
Mark Dahl. Talented young songwriter of emotionally driven songs.
AND MORE, MANY MORE, WE ALWAYS HAVE WAY MORE!!!!
The last show was ON THE EVE OF CLASS CHRISTMAS and what a show we had on
that eve indeed. We filled the Community Centre up to the brim and had
three hours of anti-capitalist entertainment like there has not been in a
long time. Comedian Mike Smith (aka the Angry Comic) told some of the
sickest groaners we have laughed at in a while. Pamela Annett sung
wonderful songs on her acoustic including the moving World War One tale
Christmas in the Trenches, later Josh Brandon crooned a couple critical
songs. Ex-United Church Minister Kevin Annett told the story of a native
youth killed in the residential schools nearly 50 years ago. Frank Martin
spoke of sovereignty in BC, then Telquaa put a spell on the Palestine
Community Centre so that people were in tears over stories from her life
long struggle for freedom. The evening ended with a song from Pamela, it
was such a beautiful song, it really was perfect for the midnight
occasion. Somehow we managed to deflect the hype of Christmas, come
together, and have a therapeutic Working Class Cafe!!!
