A time capsule of the Peoples' Movement.
Book title: Under the Lens of the People:
Our Account of the Peoples' Resistance to The FTAA,
Québec City, April 2001.
"Under the Lens of the People" is a bilingual photobook
documenting peoples' resistance to the FTAA at the Summit of
the Americas in Québec City, April 2001.
In April 2001, all the heads of states of countries in the Americas,
except Cuba, met in Québec City to secretly negotiate the Free
Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) treaty. People throughout the
Americas converged on this site to add their voices to the debate
but were violently excluded from these meetings.
The Peoples Lenses Collective prepares this compilation of essays
and photographs documenting the issues and events seen from
the Peoples' side of the fence.
This 288 page compilation is 8 by 10 inches. There are over
200 pages of powerful, lively, stunning and solemn black and
white photographs of the peoples and their resistance to the FTAA.
The photos were taken by numerous photographers of diverse
background. It further includes 19 articles of various aspects of
the hemisphere from writers throughout the Americas--including
Rodney Bobiwash,
Naomi Klein,
Murphy Brown,
Pauline Hwang,
John Jordan,
Hassan Yussuf,
Hélène Vallières,
Evelyne Pedneault,
David Suzuki and Holly Dressel,
Noam Chomsky
to name a few.
It is a bilingual (French and English) publication.
Permission to reprint the essays and photographs for this
compilation was generously granted without charge by the
authors and photographers.
All proceeds from the book will be donated to the Quebec legal
defence fund of those arrested in Quebec City during the Summit.
This book is printed on acid-free coated paper that contains 10%
recycled material, and the paper has been processed chlorine free.
Also the book is perfect bound (paper back) and the book cover
is glossy laminated.
Price per copy: $30 CAN Dollars or $25 US Dollars plus shipping.
