You may have already seen the half page ads in the dailies and community
papers around the region...

The Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) and BC Hydro have formed
a partnership to encourage residents to reduce consumption of and
conserve natural resources. The partnership, known as the "Conservation
Challenge", focuses on actions and better choices relating to efficient
use of energy and water, and the protection of air quality.

The Conservation Challenge has key targets that will be tracked and
updated monthly in local newspapers and on-line at
www.conservationchallenge.com. Residents are challenged to help meet and
exceed the following four targets:

* To have 365,000 BC Hydro customers redeem their free compact
fluorescent light bulb coupon from BC Hydro Power Smart.
* To recycle 8,000 second fridges through BC Hydro's Refrigerator
Buy-back program.
* To reduce water use in the GVRD by 5%, over the same time last
year.
* To have GVRD residents use an alternative method of
transportation to a single occupancy vehicle at least once a week.

GVRD residents can submit an online commitment to specific actions for a
period of 24 weeks, and enter to win conservation incentives at the
www.conservationchallenge.com site.

Please consider promoting the challenge where you feel it's appropriate.
The more momentum we can build, and the more pledges we receive, the
more likely we are to be successful and able to secure resources for
continued activities such as this one.

I've attached a "pointer" to the GVRD and BCH Conservation Challenge
site and pledge form. It would be great if you could feature this
pointer on your web site and link to www.conservationchallenge.com until
mid March 31st (with wrap up activities planned for Earth Day 2004).
