Sparrow has begun her eighth day without food. Although she is weak her
doctor has given her the okay to continue.
The camp is still set up at the Peace Arch border crossing. Federal Trade
Minister Pettigrew's office has promised to phone the hunger strikers but
has not done so yet.
There was a front page story in Surreys "The Now" Newspaper about the hunger
strike and camp.
On Sunday the 9th at noon there will be a rally at the Peace Arch to protest
the FTAA. The rally will correspond with a IFCO/Pastors for Peace Free
Education not Free Trade Caravan crossing the border on their way to Miami,
Chiapas, Honduras and Nicaragua. Some people from Bellingham are organizing
the rally.
How can you help with the protest?
- Volunteer to spend a night with the hunger strikers at the Peace Arch.
- Come to the rally on Sunday (I can help coordinate transport if needed).
- Contact Federal Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew and ask him why he is
ignoring the hunger strikers. You can call his office at 613.992.7332 or
fax: 613.996.8924 or fill out a form on line at
http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/common/contact_us-en.asp?subject=InformationFPI
T&form=1 You can also email comments about Canada's international trade
policy to : consultations at dfait-maeci.gc.ca
The hunger strike is a protest against the FTAA. More info can be found at
