The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has already had a
disastrous impact on working families thoughout the United States,
Canada and Mexico. Now corporate interests want to expand NAFTA rules to
the entire Western Hemisphere by 2005. The Free Trade Area of the   
Americas (FTAA) is NAFTA all over again - but actually 10 times bigger.
It would spread the damage that NAFTA has done to workers' rights,     
the environment and democracy to 34 countries, affecting some 800
million people.

The FTAA also includes rules that would increase the pressure to
deregulate public services - like education, health care, and safe
drinking water for generations of workers - leading to higher costs and
lower quality.       

The FTAA is being negotiated now behind closed doors - the U.S. Congress
will have only a "yes" or "no" vote on the whole agreement.
