IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN WE DO ON THE DAY
THE U.S. STARTS BOMBING IRAQI CITIES?
YES, on the day the U.S. bombing of Iraqi cities starts,
R A L L Y
AT 12 NOON IN FRONT OF THE U.S. CONSULATE (1092 Pender St.)
AND AT 5 P.M. AT THE VANCOUVER ART GALLERY.
"U.S. President Bush has given Iraq's President Saddam Hussein 48 hours
to get out of Iraq," Bradley Hughes of Stopwar.ca informs us.
United Nations inspectors have been ordered by the UN to leave Iraq
for their own safety.
Stopwar.ca, the anti-war coalition that has already
brought together tens of thousands of people in the Lower Mainland,
fears that the bombing of Iraqi cities may start this week, perhaps on
Friday.
It is important to be ready to demonstrate as soon as this happens.
PEACE CAMP:
Among the most recent anti-war protests in Vancouver
are last Saturday's spirited rally at the Vancouver Art Gallery
attended by tens of thousands,
the candle-light vigil held Sunday evening,
and the Peace Camp that has been set up by members of Stopwar.ca.
The Peace Camp has been set up
at Portal Park, on the corner of Hastings and Thurlow,
immediately behind the U.S. Consulate
located on 1092 Pender St.
"Anti-war protestors plan to camp at Portal Park
until the U.S. ceases its aggression against Iraq,"
informs us Irene MacInnes who has been in Baghdad
and is a member of the Stopwar.ca coalition.
The Peace Camp was visited by 600 teachers,
after the BC Teachers Federation adjourned its AGM yesterday
to express solidarity with the campers and
to repudiate the soon-to-happen
bombing of Iraqi cities by the U.S.
We are asked to set aside one or two hours
to join the Peace Camp or organize actions of protest
in our communities.
For those of us who are wondering what to take
to the Peace Camp,
food items would be welcome.
