[mobglob-discuss] RE: VPD needs volunteers for riot simulation

Will the IOC be there?

The Robson Street riot film is used 'round the world for training.

The "Riot at the Hyatt" proved the police do need practice.

What's the call-out rate for practice riots?

Maybe the owners of leaky rotten condos could earn a buck or two to offset
the GST charged on repair bills.

The Vancouver Police Department are looking for volunteers to take part in
a "riot" simulation for the Crowd Control Unit (aka "Riot Squad").

This came from a reliable source:

Subject: Protesters needed!!

Hi All,

Could u please fan out a request to all of the volunteers that you have
regarding an upcoming Crowd Control Unit Training Day?
The CCU (riot squad) is having a training day on March 6th 2003. I am
organizing people to act as protesters for some simulations we are
having in the afternoon. So.....could you please let them know that if
interested they can come to the site (8383 Manitoba Street) - 2 blocks
south of Macdonalds on Marine Drive, Vancouver at 1 pm til about 4
pm.*scenario
breifings start at 1:30 pm. They can dress in any costumes they
like..i.e. hoodies, balaclavas, carry signs, bring drums... the usual
rent-a-crowd apparell!! Also if they could bring old tennis balls, small
pieces of wood and plastic drinking bottles (that they can fill with water

at the site). The last scenario is a full-on riot where they get to throw
all of these things at us!!
They can bring friends as long as no criminal records or charges etc!!.

As it is voluntary, the VPD is not responsible for any injuries, but to
put minds at ease we had a similar training day last year with lots of
fun and no hurts!!

I will handout instructions and hold a safety briefing prior to the
scenarios.

Could u please get back to me with numbers and names.
Thx
