FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 4 JUNE 2003

RE: RAV, THE CONVENTION CENTRE, AND THE OLYMPIC BID

-The RAV line has now been approved by GVRD and Vancouver
City Council, joining the convention centre as the newest 'mega project'
associated with the 2010 Olympic Bid.

-Links to the Bid include:
Concert Properties (4 of its directors on the Bid Corp)
competing to build parts of the RAV transit stations.
Bid Corp members, Laurent Beaudoin and France Demarais
Chretien (Jean Chretien's daughter), associated with Bombardier.

-NO GAMES has learned that in advance of the Vancouver City
Council vote, city land at Burrard and 1st had already been purchased for
a RAV-trolley link.

-Both RAV and convention centre and the Bid have been
supported by the previous NDP government and the current Liberal
government.

-The costs for both mega projects are expected to exceed $2
billion, most of it funded by provincial taxpayers.

-Both projects have been largely approved without
significant public consultation yet serve to benefit private sector
interests at enormous public expense.

-NO GAMES believes that the lack of meaningful debate on
the RAV project is associated with the ties of some COPE councilors to the
NDP and the latter's longstanding commitment to the RAV line.

-NO GAMES calls upon COPE councilors and current NDP MLAs
to explain the apparent links between the NDP, COPE, and the special
interests associated with these mega projects.

-NO GAMES will be releasing additional information about
all of these issues in the near future.
