The following was the statement read to the press this morning after the 
IOC 
decision:

Those of us opposed to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver have 
taken 
this position out of the principled belief that the Games do not serve the

best interests of all the people of British Columbia.  The IOC’s decision 
has not changed this belief.  Our research into the Games and the current 
Bid have served to reinforce our view that the Games promote special 
interest groups at the expense of the ordinary citizens of our province.

As it now appears that the Games will come to Vancouver, we must look to 
the 
future and our opposition must shift to its next phase: that of watchdog 
organization.  In this role, we will hold the Bid Corporation, its 
successor 
organization, the OCOG, and the provincial government accountable for each

and every promise they made over the last few years.  Cost overruns, 
conflicts of interest involving anyone associated with the IOC, the Bid 
Corp, or government will receive our scrutiny and will be exposed.

To our supporters: you have fought a valiant fight against incredible 
odds.  
You opened a debate where there had been none, and in so doing you served 
the best interests of all British Columbians and the democratic process.

To those supporters of the Bid: Today your dream has been realized.  
However, your joy at this outcome must be tempered with responsibility.  
Our 
challenge to you is to ensure that your dream truly includes all British 
Columbians, not only the special few.  We hope that you will rise to this 
challenge.
