[mobglob-discuss] Gordo

Liz,
I agree with Alison here: Gordon Campbell is not so much the leader of the
Liberals as he is their poster child. The real leaders are busy selling
cars
and capital investment instruments. The real leaders rely on the Deputy
Ministers to the Premier to implement the real agenda: the sell-off of
every public asset
in the province and the on-going transfer of wealth from the poor to the
rich.

These objectives will not change if Gordon Cambell is removed. He may be
martyred and an equally photogenic substitute may be found but the scorched
earth policies will still be pursued. The (co-) Deputy Ministers to the
Premier have already proven their six-figure salaries-worth in previous
incarnations.

Ken Dobell, Deputy Minister to the Premier and Cabinet Secretary scooted
over to Victoria just as we were reaping the whirlwind of his tenure as CAO
of Translink. The bitter strike and contracting-out of work were the
hallmarks of his term. I remember watching him walk to his luxury car
across from the GVRD building after the notorious 12 hour public meeting
prior to ratifying the pre-ordained cuts to transit and the accompanying
fare increases. He sauntered off, tossing his still-burning cigarette into
the street, presumably carefree, having accomplished his mission at
Translink and embarking on the next level of service cuts, user fee
increases, and wholesale privatization at the Provincial level.

He can be reached at (250) 356-2206

Brenda Eaton, also Deputy Premier, also pulling down a well-deserved six
figure salary (in this new era of six dollar an hour 'training wages'!), and
in charge of Corporate Planning and Restructuring. I'll forward her CV when
I find it. Or you could call her office and ask for it.

She can be reached at (250) 387-2967.

These are the people who are really running the show. Gordon and Christie
are the smiling faces who deliver all the good news. If we are to bring
down the government we must stop tilting at windmills and find the true
centre of power, exploitation and oppression. The people in Victoria are
just managers in a branch plant. We should be directing our criticisms and
energies towards the head offices and challenging the very legitimacy of any
system that supports the concentration of power, exploitation and
oppression.

Now is the time to define the alternatives (intentionally plural, in the
interests of diversity in all its possible manifestations), and to focus on
the issues, not the celebrity personas.

Blah, Blah, blah..... don't get me started...

Tune in tomorrow: Co-op Radio 102.7 FM. at 7am. Wake up With Co-Op will
be talking about this very topic.

Christy Clark (also Minister of Education) is the Deputy Premier right now.
