Within the paradigm of heirarchy, if you cut off the head of the beast, ie:
the leader, this is symbolically so heavy that it throws a real
spanner/monkey wrench into the works. Therefore, if he has to step down, and
it really doesn't matter why, it will be seen as a major problem for the
Liberals. This is the reason that the powers that be were so relentless in
their pursuit of Glen when we (the elected NDP MLAs and the membership) were
in power. Once they had sufficiently villified our leader, they knew they
had won. In this case, you're right, there is an ongoing battle to be waged
but this self imposed black eye will be seen as a turning point for this
government. Who is the deputy Premier, anyone know? He/she is usually the
one to take over, as Dan Miller did when Glen stepped down.

Getting rid of the bastard on a technicality (because no matter how
potentially grave the technicality, it's still a technicality), will not
undo his government's policies.
It would be better to untie the gordian knot this time, rather than cut it.
