Dear friend

Six months ago, Arjan Erkel, a Medecins Sans Frontieres field
volunteer, was abducted by three gunmen in Makhachkala, the capital of
the Russian Republic of Dagestan. At the time of his abduction, Arjan
was the Head of Mission for an MSF programme working with displaced
people from neighbouring Chechnya.

Since then we have had no information about his condition, location or
who has taken him.

As part of our efforts to get Arjan released, we are asking all our
supporters to sign a petition which we intend to send to President
Putin, of Russia, and Mr Magomedov, Chairman of the State Council of
Dagestan on March 10, 2003. The petition asks that they do all within
their power to return Arjan safely to his family, friends and
colleagues.
