CALLAGHAN VALLEY SCANDAL WON'T GO AWAY

NO GAMES 2010 COALITION spokesperson Chris Shaw noted that the use of the
Callaghan Valley for the Olympic Nordic venues and Athlete's village is
still problematic given that there is an ongoing RCMP investigation based
on complaints of influence peddling brought by Nan and Diane Hartwick of
West Vancouver.

The Harwicks had originally pioneered a plan to develop the area in a
environementally sustainable manner that would have brought long-term
enployment to many in the region.

The Hartwick's claim that after their plan was developed, senior
bureaucrats in the Vander Zalm government tried to give the proposal to
other interests. Some of those named in the lawsuits are still in
government and one has been seconded from the BC government were he serves
on the Vancouver-Whistler Bid Corp.

Several lawsuits are active and a commerical crimes probe by the RCMP is
underway.

The No Games 2010 Coalition continues to ask how any plans for the
Callaghan can proceed until the Hartwick's allegations and the criminal
probe are resolved.
