A Message from the BC Green Party - Adriane Carr, Leader and Colleen
McCrory, Deputy Leader

HELP STOP THE MEGA-EXPENSIVE 2010 VANCOUVER OLYMPICS

If you live or own property in Vancouver please VOTE NO to the Olympics on

February 22, 2003. Listed below are some reasons why voting no makes sense

and the list of polling stations.

If you have a friend or family member in Vancouver call them before
February 22. Ask them to send a message to rural BC that they care about
what’s best for all of BC and VOTE NO.

Here are some reasons why it makes sense to VOTE NO to the 2010 Vancouver
Olympics:

· It’s too costly when there’s not enough money for essential
services.
The Auditor General says the 2010 games will cost BC taxpayers at least
$1.25 billion.
How can we afford a luge run, speed skating track and a big, expensive
party when we can’t afford hospitals, schools and services for those most
in need?
· Only a few people and places stand to gain. A few win, while most
of BC loses.
The area that stands to gain the most--Whistler--is already a number one
tourist destination with over-development problems. People in other parts
of BC know they won’t benefit. Yet, every BC taxpayer will pay the costs.
There are better ways to build a sustainable economy and stimulate amateur

sports for the good of all regions and all British Columbians.
· It’s too risky. We can’t afford more debt.
Including government subsidies and security costs, all recent Olympic
games
have lost money and cost more than projected. Every BC taxpayer is on the
hook for all cost over-runs and our provincial deficit is already in the
billions. If the expected return on investment was good, we’d see
corporations investing in these Olympics, but they’re not. If it’s too
risky for corporate investors, it’s too risky for taxpayers.

Polls are open 8 am to 8 pm Saturday February 22, 2003 at the following
