Dates and locations for Mayor's community forums on social, 
environmental, economic impacts of hosting the 2010 Olympic Winter Games 
and Paralympic Winter Games

The City of Vancouver has defined sustainability as follows: a 
sustainable Vancouver is a community that meets the needs of the present 
without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own 
needs. In Vancouver sustainability is achieved through community 
participation and the reconciliation of short and long term economic, 
social and ecological well-being. Mayor Larry Campbell's three forums 
each focuses on one of these areas.

Saturday, February 1 - Social Sustainability
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Croatian Cultural Centre, 3250 Commercial Drive

The Social Sustainability Forum creates an opportunity for residents to 
discuss the benefits and impacts of the Olympic Games on the social 
sustainability of the City including: strengthening social networks and 
enhancing quality of life for all neighbourhoods; creation of liveable, 
complete communities which enhance cultural vitality and diversity; 
provide a wide range of accessible housing and employment choices; and 
encourage participation of residents and visitors in stewardship of 
neighbourhoods.

Thursday, February 6 - Sustainable Legacies, hosted by the Vancouver 
Park Board
7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Riley Park Community Centre, 50 East 30th Avenue

The Sustainable Legacies Forum creates an opportunity for residents to 
discuss the benefits and impacts of the Olympic Games through the 
creation of new recreation facilities and how they would fit into the 
long term redevelopment plans of the Vancouver Park Board. Volunteerism 
opportunities, green space impacts and effects on amateur sport will 
also be explored.

Saturday, February 8 - Environmental Sustainability
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Hellenic Community Centre, 4500 Arbutus Street

The Environmental Sustainability Forum creates an opportunity for 
residents to discuss the benefits and impacts of the Olympic Games on 
the environmental sustainability of the City including: promoting the 
use of renewable resources; sustainable transportation choices, 
provision of green space and leaving a legacy for future generations.

Saturday, February 15 - Economic Sustainability
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Vancouver Public Library (downtown), Alice McKay Room

The Economic Sustainability Forum creates an opportunity for residents 
to discuss the benefits and impacts of the Olympic Games on the economic 
sustainability of the City including: fair and efficient use of 
resources without compromising future generations or other communities; 
financial costs to the City; increased tourism and job creation; 
international awareness of Vancouver, and legacy for future generations.

To register call 604-873-7621 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday to 
Friday or send an email to dana_bertrand at city.vancouver.bc.ca specifying 
the forum you are interested in attending. Space is limited.
