WOMEN'S CENTRE COORDINATOR
Temporary Part-time (28 hours) Replacement Position
January 12th - March 31st 2004


The Simon Fraser Student Society invites applications for a unionized Temporary Replacement Women's Centre Coordinator with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 2396. This is a temporary, part-time replacement position at 28 hours per week for the period from January 12th to March 31st, 2004, with the possibility of extension. The probation period is 90 days. The hourly rate is $23.74 per hour plus benefits.

The Women's Centre is a pro-feminist, transgender and inter-sex women inclusive department of the Simon Fraser Student Society. 2004 marks the 30th anniversary of the Women's Centre's presence on campus. Please visit www.sfu.ca/womenscentre for more information.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
Duties include: advising and supporting the Women's Centre Collective, including liaising with the Student Society Board of Directors; developing and publicizing programs and special events which address the needs of women; maintaining up-to-date knowledge of campus and community resources from women; providing emergency and crisis referrals; supervising a part-time librarian; and, preparing and monitoring the budget. The Women's Centre Coordinator will be responsible for the administration of the Centre including the resource office, lounge, library, and all official records.

Skills and Experience:
1. Demonstrated commitment to feminism and experience working or volunteering in a feminist organization.
2. Skill and experience doing anti-oppression work, including anti-racist practice.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Strong organizational skills.
5. Ability to work in a self-supervisory environment.
6. Experience working within a collective structure, using consensus decision-making.
7. Experience supporting and providing resources to individuals in crisis.
8. Experience with issues faced by women in an institutional academic environment.
9. Experience recruiting and working with volunteers.
10. Basic computer skills.
