There are students from SFU, Douglas, and elsewhere chained to the
US consulate. Police will eventually arrest them once they can cut through
the chains. They are asking for student support, so if at all possible head to
the US consulate as soon as possible and support them!

VANCOUVER STUDENT LOCK-DOWN AT THE US CONSULATE
IN OPPOSITION TO T"HE WAR ON IRAQ

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 1, 2003

Vancouver, BC - Four students opposed to the US-lead war on Iraq hav
e chained themselves to the doors of the US consulate. The goal of
the lock-down is to encourage creative action in the promotion of
peace.

At 7:30am today the four students began their protest by chainging
themselves to each other and to the doors of the U.S consulate with
3/8 inch chains. The action is being done in response to the Bush
administration's choice to disregard international law. The students
belive that this war in indicative of a US effort to re-colonize the
entire Middle East.

"This peaceful action arises out of a sense o furgency and fear in
response to a racist war based on economic interests that does not
represent the well-being of citizens anywhere in the world" stated
Heather Jones, an SFU student. She went on to state that "the action
also stems out of our determination to expose the impacts of the war
upon immigrants within North America and the people of Palestine
within the Occupied Territories."

The students have committed to remain chained to the consulate doors
until they are removed in order to ensure that their message of
peace, and their hopes of inspiring greater actions in opposition to
the illegal war on Iraq are clearly communicated.
