Subject: Immediate Financial Support Needed for Immigration Casework
IMMEDIATE FINANCIAL SUPPORT NEEDED
FOR IMMIGRATION CASEWORK!
OCAP immigration has been working with a woman named Dolores to prevent her
from being deported to Jamaica, If deported Dolores and her children will
face extremely unsafe living conditions, due to abusive situations that hav=
e
caused them to seek a new life in Canada.
Dolores has been living in Canada for the past nine years raising and
providing for her three Canadian born children, and has recently been
accepted to a Nurse Practitioner training program in Toronto. Dolores is
facing imminent deportation. Dolores and her family are also currently
forced to deal with the stress of unlivably strict detention release
conditions which forbid her from working or attending school.
The situation is made completely impossible by the fact that it is unsafe
for Dolores to collect social assistance. A Humanitarian and Compassionate
Application has been made to Immigration Canada, which will likely be
successful given the chance to proceed. This application, if successful,
will secure Dolores as a landed immigrant on Canadian soil, Humanitarian
and Compassionate applications are seriously weakened (in the eyes of
Immigration Canada) if applicants are receiving social assistance.
Immigration Canada has cornered Dolores in a double bind where she has no
means to support her family and herself. Strict and unjust conditions
imposed prior to deportations disallow her from being employed and narrow
and unjust eligibility criteria in the one way she may be able to stay in
Canada, rule out collecting social assistance. Effectively, these factors
deny her any and all avenues through which to financially support herself
and family. Although there has been support from Dolores=92 friends and
community, resources are low and we need to appeal to the broader OCAP
community for financial support. If you can, we need your help.
