Awhile ago the idea of the UN came up on a listserve I am on (Marxism-Feminism).
This reply is exactly correct, in my opinion.

This is a _very_ bad start to building a cohesive anti-war movement, for
it grants the fundamental premises of the war-makers that there IS a
crisis to be "worked through."
There IS NO CRISIS. There is nothing to be worked through. The U.S. is
proposing naked aggression against Iraq on NO BASIS WHATEVER. There is
nothing for the UN to do except to issue blanket condemnation of all
U.S. action in the Middle East.
There is no issue to discuss. There are no complexities.
It is as though opposition to Hitler in 1939 had begun with a suggestion
that he work out his problems with Poland through the League.
Appeasement of the U.S. must stop. Opposing U.S. aggression in the world
is what being a leftist in the U.S. _means_. It isn't our job to help
the U.S. gain support for its aggressive plans by oiling the way with
stupid UN yammer.
A voice for this resolution is a voice for war. Do not sign the letter.
Go to work in your local communities to build a mass anti-war movement.
