The Not In Our Name Project (NION) is a national network that was 
initiated in New York City in March 2002 to bring together diverse 
individuals and groups under a unified banner of resistance to the 
current course of the American government. NION is sponsoring this 
national action on Oct. 6, the anniversary eve of the bombing of 
Afghanistan, in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, 
Seattle and in numerous smaller towns across the country. In 
statements released following the 9/11 attacks from NION, they state 
“Our grief is not a cry for war. NOT a license to attack anywhere and 
anyone the president sees fit. NOT a call for roundups and detentions 
of immigrants. NOT a demand for neighborhood spy networks. NOT a 
reason to forfeit our civil liberties, our right to question and our 
responsibility to resisting these abuses.” Their pledge of resistance 
further states, “We believe that as people living in the United States, 
it is our responsibility to resist the injustices done by our 
government, in our names”.

This Seattle action, which has a permit from the city, is receiving 
wide support locally, reflecting the growing sentiments among diverse 
peace coalitions, church and religious groups, students, schools, 
community groups, anti-nuclear, labor and justice groups, activists and 
concerned individuals, that “another world is possible and we pledge to 
make it real”. The impressive list of current local endorsers include:
