Calgary G8 Calendar of Events

Calgary has become the focus of our organizing efforts in opposition to
the policies of the G8. If you cannot make it to Calgary, we encourage
you to support solidarity demonstrations in your own communities. Visit
the website at http://g8.activist.ca/ for more information about G8
related actions in Calgary, across the country and around the world.
These activities are what we know about as of June 20, 2002, and are
subject to change.

hosting a G-8 Summit delegates party. Meet at Memorial Park (4th St. and

Canadian Labour Congress Workshops On The G-8

Sweatshops To Nepad

Workshop #1 - Tuesday, June 25th  (10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)
Strengthening Global Economic Growth - really: A workshop on the G-8
Summit topic which really looks at raising living standards and reducing
global poverty, including poverty in Canada.  Real alternatives like
living wages, social and economic development, the ILO Fundamental
Declaration of Rights and the Tobin Tax will be explored.

Workshop #2 – Wednesday, June 26th (9:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.)
Sweatshops - A Sign of Globalization: A workshop on successful coalition
work, impacts of boycotts and current actions being taken against
sweatshops. Examining actions issues which promote fair working
conditions, advancement of human rights and elimination of child labour
will be stressed.

Workshop #3 - Thursday, June 27th (12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.)
Globalization Impacts in Canada & Developing Countries - A Race to the
Bottom: A workshop looking at globalization in all our communities. We
see divide and conquer strategies, workers pitted against workers,
racism, poverty, exploitation...  Workers from Africa and Canada will
examine civil society’s, corporate and government’s promises, actions
and responsibilities to deal with globalization’s impacts, now and in
the future.

The CLC tent still has space available for others wishing to do
