As many of you may already know, the International Olympic Committee met
last week and decided to unilaterally charge an additional non-refundable
fee of $500,000 US to Olymic bidding cities which are short-listed in
August. This is a questionable expenditure of public money.
This is in addition to the non-refundable fee of $100,000 that
was sent as with the Mini Bid Book which was submitted on May 31st, 2002.
As well, it was reported today that the Province and the federal government
will be spending over 600 million dollars on costs related to Olympic
venues like speedskating ovals and luge tracks when there are major cuts
happening in BC in health care, seniors services and increases in tuition
fees.
If you have concerns about Vancouver hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics,
send a message to IOC delegates around the world by sending an e-mail
directly to:
olympic-head-honchos at vcn.bc.ca
Make sure to mention your name and city when you send your message.
Sincerely,
Am Johal
