Here's a meeting that mobglobbers ought to bring out their ideas to and
be vocally present on the global justice issues that we champion. I don't
know Bev or her history, but from the brief bio in the following
announcement, she looks like a candidate to promote. Regards, -tc

Come help us organize this most important of meetings:

Bev Meslo for NDP Leader
7pm Monday 22 July 2002

Rebel Centre
2278 East 24th Avenue
Vancouver, BC V5N 2V2

Dear Friends of a Better World and Canada,

We feminists and socialist need the help of all activists and radicals.
The Federal NDP Leadership Race will decide whether or not the NDP can
truly speak for the working and poor people of this country. This race
will decide whether we are one with the people's struggles or trying to
solve the problems in the corporate board rooms.

I believe the NDP needs to be a credible voice with the people on main
street and the political party that uncompromisingly champions their
needs. The only question is will the NDP be that party?

The NDP Socialist Caucus is extremely skeptical that the current
candidates for the leadership of this party will be throwing a hard hat,
a nurse's cap or even a baseball cap into the ring. The candidates, so
far, are male versions of Alexia's pro-capitalist policies. There is not
an alternative voice to the status quo amongst them. I hold the strong
belief that it is mandatory the NDP must speak for the working women and
men of all colours and ages of this country. As the singular candidate
advocating feminism and socialism for the NDP, I am prepared to take on
this responsibility.

As a candidate that has been a member of the working class and benefited
from the social programs of health care, public education, and social
services, I am prepared to wage an unrelenting battle to defend and
entrench them. I am a long time activist, advocate and defender of
unionized labour, women, children, the elderly, the poor, along with
Natives, lesbians, gays and transgendered people -- the latter groups
being among the most victimized and exploited. I invite you to join me
to organize a public forum and media announcement to declare my candidacy
for NDP leader under a feminist and socialist banner. If you feel that
social justice issues, environmental issues, the issues of public
ownership, the social safety net, worker's rights and Canada's foreign
policy are the issues that should be discussed in this leadership race
please answer this email and you will become a part of the massive
movement for the NDP to turn sharply to the left. If you would like a
more detailed biography please ask and one will be forwarded to you.
Yours in feminist and socialist solidarity,
Bev Meslo
A responce to this email will be confirmed with you and a map of meeting
sight will be made available to you.
Thank you, BEV
NDP Candidate for Federal Leader
