Macdonald:

I do recognize your positive response to Bella as a step toward resolving 
some of the ongoing disputes. My reply to her was more jocular than 
warranted (e.g., the use of 'nutcase' to describe some of the commentary on 
the list, including that of Arthur Topham) and I apologize to you and the 
list if my comments are interpreted as contributing to the ongoing 
divisions. This was not my intent. I may have fallen victim to some of the 
same passions that we have seen displayed. Regardless, it is a poor excuse, 
and I regret having done so.
