Agreed, and very strongly. The best approach we can take is to, in the
case of the Larouchite fascists and now these AGAN/Nazi types, is to
come up with a Vancouver (or larger) wide unwritten policy on how we
deal with this kind of garbagee. The reason is simple: too often in
situations like this, a handful of people are the only ones who are
actually willing to take on these kinds head first, and what we end up
with are a few isolated (but not alone) activists that are easily
marked by the fascist and neo-fascist forces for reprisal. There are
more than a few good anti-fascists in town who have been under attack
in their lives- becaue they operated in small numbers to deal with the
sludge crawling under our movement.
I suggest that we coordinate a meeting to deal with this, and we be
very careful about how we do anything: We also are facing new forms of
state repression at the exact same time as all of these factors start
to come into play, and we cannot afford to react to that with mass
paranoia either. The balance is very tricky. We cannot build a culture
of security that excludes people needlessly from our ranks, even less
so now that our movement is in retreat and needing a good recharger.
Nonetheless, as Garth points out, we are in a vacuum situation that
allows us to be much more easily targetted by racist filth -- and to
resist that we will need to learn from one another and come up with
clear plans. Larouchite scum have been joining ELP, attending G8
Whistler demos, anti-Campbell rallies at the Art Gallery and even anti-
war conferences at UBC. AGAN (the NA) have now clearly been right in
the thick of our movement, trying to play off confusion and (perhaps)
trying to capitalise on it to recruit and/or cause unneccessary scrums
with no clear point. That, and that rag the "Radical" is continually
pushed by even some of our "own" , both here in Vancouver and Calgary-
despite its previous publishing of anti-immigrant diatribes from far
far rightist Paul Fromm and anti-semitic conspiranoid David Icke (who
also thinks lizard people from outerspace run the world), among other
things. It also interviewed anti-woman terrorist Gordon Watson, but we
have members in and around us who think that this is a matter of "free
speech" (the Nazis the world over use this as their last resport, when
they are show to be what they are). These things need immediatte
resolution. We should try to get together as many of our ranks- from
every organisation-- to share their experiences witrh these
infiltrators, before our own get hurt.
