[mobglob-discuss] vivisection and globalization

Hi David:
I respect your concerns about 'vivisection' in relation to global justice
and the overall direction for those in the anti-globalization movement. I do
work with animals in relation to studies of human neurological disease (not
sure what studies you have found that you refer to; please clarify): living
ones for behavioural tests; dead ones for histology. Just to be clear, we
also do math/computer modeling and do tissue culture studies as well, so
don't completely rely on living animals as models.
I assume from your comments that you must be vegan and don't use animal
products of any kind, again a position I respect. I would also assume that
you are aware of texts such as 'The Secret Life of Plants' which makes clear
that plants also have a more sophisticated consciousness and repetoire of
behaviour than most acknowledge. In the end, in my opinion, unless we can
learn to photosynthesize,we will have to continue to use animals/plants for
food, etc. Given this, the key question is how we do so: as exploiters or
with reverence. In my mind, the same holds true of whether we use animals as
models of human disease.
I'd be happy to debate any or all of this with you personally. I suggest we
do so 'off list' to spare those who may not be interested.
Regards,
Chris
