IN recent weeks the government of Thailand began a campaign persecution
directed at Burmese pro democracy activists. Actions have included
arrests of 30 people in a crackdown at Sangklaburi. Others are,
restrictions imposed on the activities of democratic groups and NGOs
(involved with Burma), travel restrictions (the withdrawal of passes
issued by Thai security), the closure of offices.
Please take the time to fax/mail a letter to Thai representatives in
Canada.
Addresses, fax numbers & emails at the bottom of this message.

Dear (ambassador or consul general),
I am writing to express my concern
about recent persecution by the Government of Thailand of Burmese
pro-democracy activists. Government actions have included the arrest of
30 people at Sangklaburi, plus restrictions imposed on the activities of
democratic groups and NGOs involved with Burma, including travel
restrictions and the closing of their offices.
A multilateral contact policy has been the lynchpin of Thailand in its
relation with neighbor-states for many decades, and this has always
benefited Thailand.
National reconciliation is the goal of the people of Burma and of the
democratic opposition as well, and this is in line with PM Thaksin's
aspiration with regard to the conflict in Burma.
Burma's democratic opposition and activists are engaged in preparing
for National Reconciliation and a peaceful settlement through dialogue,
so rather than be persecuted by the Government of Thailand, Burma's
democratic opposition and activists should be encouraged by your
government in their constructive approach to national reconciliation,
peace, nation-building, and political change. I am asking you to
encourage your government to aid these activists instead of repressing
them, as a peaceful, democratic Burma will be of great benefit to
Thailand and its people. Thank you for your consideration regarding this
very important matter.
Yours Sincerely,
[a]
