débile, CSU appelle à la grève fin mars (WTF) et l'université dit qui vont
complètement ignorer le vote de grève (et crisser les étudiants étranger
dehors s'ils se désinscrivent de cours).
University position on possible student protest - from David Graham
Dear colleagues,
Many of you have raised questions regarding the implication of a possible
student protest in March. I am writing to address some of the issues and
provide you with information to share with students, should questions
arise.
The Concordia Student Union Council has called for a strike vote on
March 7 with the goal of calling a general walkout in late March,
immediately prior to final examinations, as a protest against increased
tuition fees. While the term strike is specific to employees who have a
collective agreement with an employer, students have the right to express
their views on issues that are important to them.
Regardless of the outcome of the March 7 vote, Concordia intends to
continue operating as usual. This means all instructional activities,
including classes, tutorials, labs and studio sessions, will be held as
scheduled. Faculty members are expected to teach and staff will be
expected to report to work. In fact, the university has a responsibility
to provide services that are a part of its agreement with our students,
even if some of those students decide not to attend class as a form of
protest.
It is important that students be aware of the potential consequences of
missing classes and other instructional activities, and you may be asked
by your students about the consequences of choosing to be absent from
class.
While each students case will be unique, the following information may
assist you in responding to questions:
While you may elect to exercise flexibility, students who choose to miss
your classes, elect not to submit assignments you have set, or refuse to
take their exams will be subject to whatever normal academic consequences
you impose as a result.
International students who choose to protest and drop courses in order to
protect their GPA may impair their visa status and health insurance
coverage. Please refer them to the International Student Office (Room
H-653, Henry F. Hall Building, 1455 De Maisonneuve Blvd. W. or phone
514-848-2424, ext. 3515).
Students who choose to attend class but not pay tuition risk being
deregistered and would not be allowed to register for the next term.
Students planning to graduate in spring 2012 should assess the impact that
absences will have on their ability to meet graduation requirements.
Students should contact an academic advisor in their program of study if
they have specific questions.
Faculty members are asked to conduct and manage their courses in
accordance with expectations previously communicated in course outlines
and other class materials.
You may wish to make this position clear to your students well in advance
so as to avoid any disappointment or confusion.
Many thanks for your assistance with this.
Best regards, DG
