Le 6 Janvier 2012, un agent de la police de Montr�al a tir� sur Farshad
Mohammadi, un sans abri, lui �tant la vie par la m�me occasion. L'incident
a eu
lieu au m�tro Bonaventure, il s'agit du premier homicide commis par la police
en 2012.

En r�ponse � cet �v�nement, le collectif Howl! s'adresse � la population de
Montr�al et en particulier aux artistes et les invite � se rassembler et �
comm�morer la mort de Farshad Mohammadi avec leurs pancartes et leurs
chansons.

Il est important de mettre en contexte cet acte brutal : nous vivons
actuellement sous la tutelle d?un gouvernement conservateur particuli�rement
agressif qui travaille � mettre en place de nouvelles mesures d'aust�rit�
�conomique. Ces changements auront pour r�sultat de mettre le poids de la
crise
financi�re sur les �paules des pauvres et de la classe travailleuse et
d'approfondir les �carts sociaux.

Ce rassemblement a �galement pour but de r�pondre � cette nouvelle r�alit�
politique et �conomique.

Il y a tr�s peu de d�tails quant aux circonstances de la mort de Farshad
Mohammadi, Cependant, il faut se rappeler qu'il ne s'agit pas du premier
cas de
violence polici�re commis par la SPVM, et qu'� ce jour, justice n?a pas �t�
rendue pour les victimes pr�c�dentes.

On 06/01/2012 Montreal police shot and killed Farshad Mohammadi, a homeless
man, downtown at m�tro Bonaventure, the first police killing of the year.

In response the Howl! arts collective is calling on people in Montreal to
gather in remembrance and solidarity with Farshad Mohammadi. Howl! calls on
community members, and particularly artists, to commemorate and express
remembrance for Farshad Mohammadi via placard signs, song and poetic verse.

As winter winds blow across Montreal, let us remember the struggle for
justice
and dignity of people on the streets.

As Canada's Conservative government moves to enforce economic austerity
measures that place the burden of the financial crisis on poor and working
people, let us also mark this police killing within the growing calls for
social and economic justice in Quebec and Canada.

Details of the killing remain unknown, however the clear facts stand as a
horrific reminder of police violence in Montreal. There has still been no
accountability, nor justice, for the many victims of police violence in
Montreal.

Fredy Villaneuva, Mohamed Anas Bennis, Quilem Registre, all the way back to
Jean-Pierre Lizotte and Anthony Griffin, were all killed as a direct
result of
police action.


Since 1987, in Montreal, more than 60 people have been killed during Montreal
police interventions, most recently Mario Hamel and Patrick Limoges killed in
June, 2011.

Let us stand united in solidarity against police killings and violence.
