hello everyone,
A huge congratulations on the documentary! It is looking very good. You
should all feel* very proud and happy *with where it is at, after all your
hard work.
I realize that most people are very fatigued with this project.
Documentaries are like marathons and the last few miles are the most
important as they will lead to what is the final film, so hopefully you can
find the energy to just put in another round of editing to really nail the
film. Here are my suggestions which I believe would make the documentary
stronger. Take the comments as you will, they are all in the spirit of
making the film stronger.
In general- tighten up. The film overall feels a bit long and at times the
energy sags. I think it would be a really good time to print up the film
and read it and see where there are redundancies and cut them out.
Cut the security certificate section. Feels disjointed and like it jumps
out to the viewer. The person next to me said <what are they talking about>
during this section because it is just a big deviation and a very
complicated issue to try to just 'tack' on.
Cut the Canadian mining/imperalism section. This also feels disjointed and
'too much'. There are other films that deal with security certificates and
canadian mining.
Don't make this film try to cover everything instead of having a nice tight
focus which keeps the viewers attention throughout.
One Detail-
Ros says 'irregardless' at one point. This makes her sound silly. Consider
cutting this.
congrats again. Really, really good job!!!!!!!!!!!
