So roughly I explained our situation to Chico today and he said it was fine for us to not submit footage and a trailer but we would have to host a screening night at CUTV at the end of our production. I asked if we could host it elsewhere and he said no one has to be at the station.

He also sent me the current policy on these things and I've attached it to this email. If y'all feel comfortable with that we can pick up equipment from them tomorrow. He seems really willing to work with us and compromise but the station is goin through a lot of changes that affect our ability to use it.

Let me know!

> Hi,
>
> You guys are absolutely welcome to use the equipment and editing workstations for productions!
>
> Basically this is the new structure regarding equipment access at CUTV:
>
> 1. Any student or community member can access training and become a Video Producer. Video Producers at CUTV create whatever content they like (within ethical guidelines of course). The costs relating to equipment requested for these productions are "sponsored" by CUTV.
>
> 2. In exchange for the free equipment & software tools used in the production, Video Producers grant CUTV a license to have the final video on its website as a proof of service. Producers are additionally required to list CUTV's contributions in the credits of any production where the footage is used.
>
> 3. At no time does CUTV have ownership or editorial control over content. All CUTV gets to have is a license for the content. This had never been made clear in the past and, after much research into copyright law over the summer, I have made great efforts to elucidate ownership details as clearly as possible and in a manner grounded in Canadian law.
>
> Now, in your specific situation—where interns are getting registered as Video Producers to create content for the 2110 Centre—I would highly suggest drafting a simple production contract between the 2110 Centre and the two interns (as Video Producers). I can help with this if you like.
>
> This contract would explicitly state that the final ownership of these projects (and only these projects) belongs to the Centre and not to the two Video Producers. This contract would (legally) render the project they are doing for the 2110 Centre as a "work-for-hire" (Canada Copyright Act, Section 13(3)), thereby allowing the 2110 Centre to have final say on the production, re-production, sub-licensing and publication/presentation of the work.
>
> A note for the interns: According to the law, creators of a work-for-hire would still retain moral copyrights. This means you can demand to receive (or to not receive) credit for your work as an intern (Canada Copyright Act, Section 14(1)). Moral copyright also retains other rights, but I won't get into it too much in this email. If you're curious though, it's good information to have so feel free to strike up another discussion thread ^_^
>
> Also, just as a reminder: Concordia Undergrad students have their membership fee paid by their tuition, so the sponsorship program could provide you with a zero-cost service (not including your own work hours, of course).
>
> I know that was a lot of information I just spewed out, so do let me know if there is anything unclear or if I can provide info about anything else. I've attached the current implementation of the sponsorship policy to this email. If you have any feedback, pretty pretty please don't hesitate to share your thoughts (all three of you)! They're essential :)
