here's the questions... and they can totally be moved around or changed...
it's just an 'aide memoire'
also just to clarify, they are coming for a 'focus group' right?
Focus Group
1- Welcome! Table ‘go round’.
Estimated time for meeting (when to break)
OK with recording it?
2-Project presentation
Time for questions and clarifications.
Explain why we wanted to do this and the intentions of the
Focus Group.
3-About them: their group and affiliations.
What campaigns are they working on now?
What’s coming up over the next year… events etc?
What’s ‘pressing’ now?
4- Popular Education: Experiences and Interests?
Practises? Tools they use/need?
What the ‘public’ doesn’t know, isn’t understanding?
Misunderstood issues?
Facts etc that need to get out?
Gaps in knowledge (public, activists and those directly
affected).
5-Media? How has the above issues been covered by the main stream and
alternative media?
What’s their relationship with media been like? Experiences?
Any concrete gains? Positive and negative outcomes?
-Have you ever been filmed or made a film before?
What was the experience?
Pos and Neg?
Would they do it again?
How to avoid the negative experiences?
6-Would you want to have the discussed issues covered in a doc? What issues?
What kind of film is needed? How would they want to use it?
What for?
How should they be covered
Who should be covered (ex: key actors to film, key actions)
Who gets shown??? : How to approach ‘documenting/involving’
directly affected folks? How can we be safe?
What can and should be filmed?
What’s important to show?
7- How would you like to be involved?
Ex: interviews, finding people, networking
Follow up, how to use the films? Promo etc?
What’s their comfort level with filming? What activities? Ex:
group meetings, public events..
**** can they give feedback at a ‘test’ screening?
**release forms!
**(contract, if they want to be really involved to think about
future responsibilities and expectation)
9- Feedback?!?!
Who else to talk to?
Should we organize another focus group?
Will you promo this and share contacts, send folks our way?
What did they think about the focus group? Useful? Good length,
# of people?
Doc project name?
Other comments?
Stay in touch email, phone etc? point person etc…
