Reportback

Dear friends and allies,
Please watch and share a new video, courtesy of allies, featuring
interviews with detainees and their family members:

We also bring you devastating news. Renan Avilez Hernandez, detained and
filmed by CBSA and Force Four, is facing deportation to Honduras tonight.
Diana Thompson, an Indigenous woman and wife of Renan says: “I feel
frustrated and sad and angry and hurt. I don’t know when I will see him.
As a First Nations woman, I have a right to choose my partner and my life
and how I want to live. He was working, supporting his family back home
and my family here. Who is this government to say who can stay?”
Diana has been incredibly vocal in speaking out against the raids and
reality show. Her and others launched a petition to Cancel Border
Security:

---------------------------------
Tomorrow, Thursday March 28th, there will a lunch hour rally from noon to
1 pm at Force Four Entertainment to deliver the petition and to protest of
this racist reality style TV show that profits from exploitation,
suffering, and division of migrant people and their families.

---------------------------------
Outrage against this show continues to spread
Amnesty International has released an open letter, which in part reads:
"Amnesty International is deeply concerned that filming and broadcasting
immigration raids may endanger the lives of some of the people in
question, as well as those of their families... Force Four Entertainment
should not be granted express government permission to reap economic
benefits from the human suffering and family breakup that are very often
caused by immigration detention and deportation."

The BC Civil Liberties Association has also filed a formal complaint with
the federal Privacy Commissioner today on behalf of a migrant worker who
had been filmed for the Canada Border Services Agency’s reality television
series. The complaint, brought by the BCCLA with Oscar Mata Duran, alleges
that CBSA’s use of a reality TV crew to record its interactions with
people is illegal and that it violated Mr. Mata Duran’s rights under the
federal Privacy Act. Mr. Mata Duran was detained on suspicion of working
in Canada without proper documentation, and was deported yesterday.

We plan on continuing our campaign until this reality show is shut down.
We hope you join us in keeping up the pressure and spreading the word.
Deportation is not Entertainment, Stop the Raids!
We also thank everyone who supported and participated in the annual
community march against racism. It was a beautiful and inspiring march
with so many diverse communities and such an intergenerational and
multilingual presence.
