JUST PUBLISHED RELAY #16
(Mar/Apr 2007)
Neoliberalism has cast a long shadow over the global political
economy and the left for some two decades now. This is what the
renowned Africanist John Saul and others have called the 'empire of
capital'. Saul sets his case for 21st century socialism and political
resistance in this context in the new issue of Relay.
He is joined by a series of other authors analyzing some of the
fields in which new political resistances are stirring in the
fightback against neoliberalism. These range from the student movement
in Canada and farmers' mobilization against the dismantling of the
Wheat Board, to the developing global campaign against Israeli
apartheid and climate change.
A key zone of contention with neoliberalism has been Latin America,
and important articles assess recent struggles in Mexico and Bolivia.
The social forum process has been one of the most important political
spaces to emerge in the struggle against neoliberalism, and Relay here
includes report-backs from the meetings in Nairobi.
