Dear Friends,
On behalf of the International Society for Peace and Human Rights
we are pleased to invite you to the first annual Unity Festival. The
Festival will be a province wide gathering of Non-Governmental
Organizations, civil society and progressive groups and individuals. It
will be held on Saturday, November 23rd at the Ukrainian Community Hall
(154 East 10th Avenue, Vancouver) from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
The Unity Festival will provide a platform for networking and coalition
building among the province's progressive community. It will also allow
for discussion and sharing of views about the future of our movement,
namely a proposal to form the North American Chapter of the World Social
Forum.
At the beginning of the 21st Century, our planet is entering a new era of
corporate domination in which the protection of human rights, the
preservation of the environment and the struggle against global poverty and
disease becomes most critical. It is clear that our efforts will be most
effective if we can work together and share our resources. Then we will
enter a new phase within which we can actively participate in shaping the
future of this planet. We will create the path by walking it.
The Unity Festival is an opportunity for us to identify and communicate
common grounds and goals, and the means of working together toward
organizing a continental gathering of the World Social Forum. While there
will be musical celebration of our unity and presentations on a number of
critical issues, parts of the Festival will be specifically devoted to
discussions around the first meeting of the North American chapter of the
World Social Forum (proposed for August 2003 in Vancouver).
There is limited table space available for display booths and
information. Please confirm your participation before November 12th by
emailing us at bhughes at sfu.ca and indicate if you need table space
(display setup must be completed by 11:30am).
We look forward to seeing you at the Unity Festival. Please feel free to
forward this invitation to other individuals and groups who may be
interested.
In solidarity,
Bradley Hughes, on behalf of
