Our commitments to you

Maikng life better and more affordable for BC families

Dear Friend:

Yesterday in Victoria, I unveiled seven key commitments to make life better and more affordable for average British Columbians.

These commitments are at the heart of this election. They match the priorities that I have heard from all British Columbians since I became leader. And unlike Gordon Campbell, I am making commitments that I intend to keep.

After four years of Gordon Campbell's broken promises, fee increases, and mismanagement, I have heard clearly that British Columbians want their government to focus on getting a few very important things right. Our common-sense, practical commitments are centred on improving the lives of average British Columbians through very specific actions to rescue public health care, to help young people get the education they need, to improve our environment, and to restore integrity to government.

Our seven key commitments are:
- Open 1,000 long-term care beds this year and 5,000 more over four years.
- Reduce wait lists and clean up dirty, over-crowded hospitals.
- Freeze post-secondary tuition fees, double apprenticeships and begin to reduce K-12 class size.
- Stop privatization to ensure low Hydro and ICBC rates and scrap the $6 training wage.
- Balance the budget and ensure people in all regions share the benefits of a strong, competitive economy.
- Restore support for the most vulnerable - seniors and children, the disabled and the poor.
- Re-establish the Ministry of the Environment and enforce clean air and water standards.

Gordon Campbell's mean-spirited agenda has had a profoundly negative impact on average families, struggling to support their children's education and worried about what lies ahead for their parents. It's time to end one-sided government that benefits only a few.

Our seven practical, common sense key commitments reflect the priorities of ordinary families - and we are proud to have all British Columbians know exactly where we stand on these important issues.

But we need your help to have these commitments turned into action on May 18th. Please get involved in this important election campaign. To get involved in your local campaign, click here. http://www.candidates.bc.ndp.ca/

Thanks so much for your support!
