[Januaryfirst] Let's meet next Saturday, Dec. 13 to plan Jan. 1st, 2015!

Hi all,

First of all, apologies for the long absence! As you know, many of us are
part of other groups (too many in some case :-), and things can get pretty
busy.

But as the new year approaches, it's time to meet and make our wacky and
awesome ideas for a Jan. 1st, 2015 action a reality! You may remember that
we had a potluck back in October, which was also an initial planning
session, and from there some interesting ideas already came up. Here's a
super brief run-down, so you're more in the loop:

   - We should definitely do another action on Jan. 1st, but we need to
   make sure the focus/message is clear for everyone (now that the 20th
   anniversary of NAFTA has passed).
   - Given that Jan. 1st is a holiday, and there's not that much going on
   in the business district, we may want to move the event.
   - We figured tapping into the one big event that happens in the city,
   the Polar Bear Swim, could work: we'd try to complement the activities and
   be close to it so people walking by can see it and engage with us; we'd
   also do some more creative activities to make sure we are not perceived as
   "disrupting" the existing event.
   - We thought that we could adapt some street theater that CIPO-VAN has
   done in the past, like Mexican wrestling, and bring hot chocolate.
   - We agreed that we can make an open call-out for others to join in and
   add their own take on the activities.
   - We decided to have another meeting with as many people as possible to
   keep planning and fine-tuning the messaging and frame through which we can
   make the action clear and related to the issues of free trade, capitalism,
   colonialism, and -more importantly- the resistance to these systems and
   alternatives being built by communities.

So! Please put it in your calendar that we'll be meeting next week to keep
the discussion rolling, and start the work to make this all happen. The
details of the meeting are below:

*When:* Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, 6 PM onward.
*Where:* Mosaic Community Room (1720 Grant St, corner with Commercial)
*What:* Potluck and planning session for Jan. 1st., 2015 activities. Bring
something to share!
