What dimensions (about 1m x 2m)?? What colour? - I think we should start distributing flyers by this weekend and early next week if possible. Are the final flyer designs done? I'll print some and take them to UCT. Someone needs to do the Muizenberg neighbourhood. - I'll make the little nocticeboard thing and will bring it (together with pins, paper to make into notices and koki pens) on the day - I'll send an invite to all the facebook group members next Monday. - peter, how's the website coming along? Looks pretty cool and I think worth exploring within the RRFM context. What do you think? A Gizelle Rush November 18 at 9:31pm Report Hi Andreas, I am the organiser of a group in Cape Town called Evolver - part of a worldwide network of "spores" (check out www.evolver.net) that meet monthly to discuss / experience various topics / themes. I was at the market on Sunday, it was a great experience in many ways, thanks! but the main reason I am getting in touch with you directly is that our theme for January is "Living in the Gift: Gift Economies" - I often try to collaborate with other groups to keep each of our meetings different and fresh, and to open up new synergistic possibilities, and was wondering if you would like to talk about joining forces in January - perhaps combining a market with movie clip screenings and/or talks and/or group discussions? Let me know what you think - I look forward to hearing from you :-) Gizelle -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The pamphlets could be a message carrier, and we can hand them out on the day, maybe we keep them standard, without dates etc on and just advertise the dates on fb or reprint ones with dates to flyer houses. so there are two pamphlets - one with dates and one without that we can continuously redistribute on the day. perhaps suggestions for the next one in the invite - like kite making, games, workshops, food stalls ( which there were and they were great) ... just to get the ball rolling and people thinking about these kinds of things. What they bring to the market then will be a suprise to all. I think the last one was great as well, everyone enjoyed it. Maybe we can start a topic on the FB site about what people think could happen at the next one. Please have a look at the text and make changes, corrections and so on. A We?re doing it again! After a really really successful first-ever Really Really Free Market in Cape Town we are having another one on Sunday 13 December at Zandvlei in Muizenberg from 1pm to 4pm. If you were at the first event, you already know how it works. The concept is really simple: if you have anything to share - things that you no longer use and that are clogging up your garage, your hair cutting skills or anything else you can think of - then bring them along. The only restriction: everything has to be 100% free. No swapping, no bartering and no money involved... At the previous Really Really Free Market people brought lemonade, a delicious curry, tuna burgers, crunchies, clothes, books, toys and all sorts of other items, all to be given away as gifts to whoever wanted them. But you don?t have to bring physical objects. If you?re in a band or play the tuba, why not hold an impromptu mini-concert? If you do Tarot readings or can teach someone to knit, then why not do that? Organise a treasure hunt for the kids or perform a puppet theatre play. The only limitation is your own creativity and if you?re inspired to do something ... just do it! Where? Next to Zandvlei, on the large grassy bit on the east side of the vlei where the kite festival normally happens. There are detailed directions below and some maps in the photo section. This event is open to anyone - so bring your kids and grandparents - and it's organised by the participants themselves, including you. There won't be any "official stalls" and things (unfortunately there are no toilet facilities or electrical supplies, either). It will simply be whatever all of us make of it, so bring some blankets and join us for a relaxed afternoon. Directions: From Cape Town: Take the M3 highway towards Muizenberg. At the end of the highway turn left into Steenberg Road towards Muizenberg. At the t-junction turn right into Main Road and drive towards Muizenberg. At the main traffic lights in Muizenberg, turn left into Atlantic Road which soon turns into Beach Road and after a sharp left and right corner becomes Royal Road. Immediately after crossing the vlei/river, turn left into Axminster Road at the traffic lights. Take the next left turn into Clifton Road, drive around the bend and park next to the road. The Really Really Free Market will be on the grassy space to your left. From Simon?s Town, Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay: Drive along the Main Road towards Muizenberg. At the main traffic lights in Muizenberg, turn right into Atlantic Road which soon turns into Beach Road and after a sharp left and right corner becomes Royal Road. Immediately after crossing the vlei/river, turn left into Axminster Road at the traffic lights. Take the next left turn into Clifton Road, drive around the bend and park next to the road. The Really Really Free Market will be on the grassy space to your left. From the M3: If you?re coming along the M3 (Prince George Drive) towards Muizenberg, drive until you get to the traffic circle right at the end of the road. Turn right into Royal Road towards Muizenberg. At the first traffic lights turn right into Axminster Road. Take the next left turn into Clifton Road, drive around the bend and park next to the road. The Really Really Free Market will be on the grassy space to your left. From Stellenbosch and Khayelitsha: If you?re coming along the coastal road (Baden Powell Drive) from Stellenbosch, Somerset West or Khayelitsha, drive towards Muizenberg. At the traffic circle at the outskirts of Muizenberg carry on straight into Royal Road towards Muizenberg. At the first traffic lights turn right into Axminster Road. Take the next left turn into Clifton Road, drive around the bend and park next to the road. The Really Really Free Market will be on the grassy space to your left. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Join the ?Free the Airwaves? march to Parliament on Wednesday, 25 November 2009 10am ? Keizersgracht Street ? Cape Town (opposite the Castle). The existence of Cape Town TV (CTV) on the airwaves is under threat ? and we need you to help save our city?s community television channel. CTV has been on air for more than a year, providing relevant, informative local and international programming to nearly a million viewers. The channel is now under threat due to government?s lack of support for community TV. If we want to save community TV, preserve it as a space for our freedom of expression and prevent its commercialisation, it is critical that we stand up for our RIGHT TO COMMUNICATE! Issues: ICASA has not allocated any frequencies for CTV use and now plans to take CTV off air early next year to make way for cell phone TV! Non-profit community TV stations are charged commercial rates for transmission costs by the state-owned signal provider, Sentech. Community TV stations are not protected during and after the migration to digital terrestrial television. We demand: That CTV is not switched off when ICASA licenses a new cell phone TV operator next year but that a frequency is allocated to carry the channel. Immediate government financial support for community broadcasters? signal distribution costs ? including community radio. That Sentech provides CTV with a good quality signal and transmission for free or at a significantly reduced rate. That community TV is protected during and after the migration to Digital Terrestrial Television. Demand freedom of expression and the right to communicate! Support your community media ? JOIN THE MARCH! _________________________________________________________________ New Windows 7: Find the right PC for you. The only limitation is your own creativity and if you?re inspired to do something ... just do it! Where? Next to Zandvlei, on the large grassy bit on the east side of the vlei where the kite festival normally happens. There are detailed directions below and some maps in the photo section. This event is open to anyone - so bring your kids and grandparents - and it?s FREE (duh!). It's organised by the participants themselves, including you. There won't be any "official stalls" and things (unfortunately there are no toilet facilities or electrical supplies, either). It will simply be whatever all of us make of it, so bring some blankets and join us for a relaxed afternoon. PLEASE FORWARD TO ANYONE YOU THINK MIGHT BE INTERESTED.
