Hi Everyone, below are the very draft minutes from our first meeting - they are very sporadic, think because of all the up and down with the kids - please if I have left anything out etc. let me know and I will make changes, we can discuss in the next meeting.

On this, I have spoken to Andreas and we think we need to meet so we can start working on something... We can carry on with our usual Sunday's at 11h00, if so we coudl meet the 5th July or the 12th July - please let me know if this is cool and which date is best so we can try to get everyone there. Another option woudl be to do a week day evening but not sure if those with kids can do this (might be nice to be able to leave the little buggers at home ) Please get back with dates and ideas.

Comradely

Mandy

Meeting: 6 June 2009
Community House, Salt River, Cape Town

Present: Lettie, Peter, Andreas, James, Glen, Asanda, Megan, Mandy and lots of kids!

Discussion was held around the purpose of the meeting and it was agreed that, given NOPE was more like project and we wanted to do more beyond the state and elections, basically – where to from here?

A long brainstorming session followed on numerous possibilities which focussed around the group wanting to share skills and news about different struggles, events and what’s happening in Cape Town and link up with these. Run events similar to NOPE which are political but FUN.

Many ideas were discussed and it was agreed we could do a number of things, the final focus areas follow but to do justice to all the ideas and make sure they are not lost, here are some of the groups thoughts as they emerged (Group please add to minutes if there is something cool that you think I left out – ta!) including:
Film Screenings, Economics education, connect people through a database, training on newsletter development, the Really, Really Free Market (end November when the weather is better), Building art, Using technology like SMS’s, Get someone arrested for climbing a tree to protest CT by-laws, Study Group for skills and knowledge exchange, Music linked to art and animation, use of watercolour protest art.

Concrete things we can use and could do for now:

Set up a Website and mailing list – Peter would do this, Mandy needs to find out if she can get an NPO number, ideas to include on the website would be book reviews stuff on Anarchist Kids and what we are doing.
Accessible Film screenings – first one Beyond Elections
Book Fair
Political education workshop starting with the comrades Zabalaza have been contacted by. Megan can assist with illustrations and Mandy and Andreas con work on the material
Lettie would work on fundraising, we need equipment and should put a proposal together – everyone should think about a fund raiser

Whilst the meeting agreed that we have different political positions we all agreed on four fundamental principles that would form the basis of the group:

Anti-Authoritarian
Anti-Capitalist
Anti-Discrimination (We believe in equality for all in terms of race, sex, age, ability, sexual orientation etc.)
Communalist

Glen, I think you've been thinking about something along these lines?

Cheers,
Andreas
