Cool, it sounds like the 8th is our day. Want to meet at the tower for around 2pm? It's during open hours, but the back room will probably be available.

It'd be really nice to sit down with you folks.
I'm free on the 8th.

Hey Peter,

Thanks for the email. I think it would be good to check in, for sure. Niki and I were discussing a joint project with Danielle and Jen up until Dec/Jan but I haven't touched base with anyone since then mostly because I've been a bit swamped with 3 courses and family stuff.

I also wanted to talk with you and others about a request from folks at Sanctuary City to do a Colonialism 101 workshop. Caitlin and I chatted about it recently and they are looking for something basic and that shouldn't require too much of a time commitment (putting something together that would look like a 1.5-2hr workshop at most). They are wondering if we would be interested in putting something together before the end of March since they are trying to work on their analysis for their upcoming campaign and rally on April 1. I can give more details when we meet but essentially Caitlin said they need some support with more basic things like wanting to make claims about indigenous solidarity while tokenizing. I told her I'd talk with folks and get back to her.

I don't think I can do that Saturday (I think it's March 7th?) but I could get away with a meeting on Sunday the 8th. I could also do Thursday the 5th in the early evening. Do either of these times work for others?

Talk soon,
j.

Hi team,

It's been about five months since our last meeting when we split the group and prepared for the CUPE AGM -- maybe this is a good time to check in and see how things are feeling? On our side, we haven't met since about November, and even then it was just to finalize some donations we'd committed to back in the summer. Jess and Niki, have you had the chance to move on any of the projects you were thinking about?

We've received an application for support from Trish and Daniel for a convergence they're working on with Jen and some other folks. I'd like to be able to make a donation, which involves pulling together a meeting some time before long (application text is below). Maybe we could aim to have a general check-in about where the working group is at and also address the donation at that time. Anyone free in the early afternoon of Saturday March 4?

Our Group

Membership & Support: At the moment our group consists of two individuals, unconnected to any formal or professional organizations, who have been working with and building relationships with groups and individual at Six Nations for approximately 9 months. Over the course of that time we have been trying to build meaningful relationships and help people understand the risks of pipelines – in particular Enbrige’s line 9. Our information and engagement has been particularly well-received by the community and as such we’ve been invited to speak to many councils and groups including, most recently, at Longhouse.

Goals: Our current goal is to put together a gathering for first nations across Ontario. The gathering itself will be at Six Nations and is confirmed for March 19th - so far we have 5 other confirmed nations attending. We'll be discussing the risks and effects of Enbridge's line 9, what meaningful consultation is, and what individuals and Nations have been doing to resist this project while reviewing what's been successful so far (along with what hasn't), possible courses of action left and how these lessons and connections can be applied to future pipeline/industry resistance. Our primary goal for this gathering is to begin or continue building essential connections between nations throughout so-called southern Ontario to resist the exploitation of capitalist industry.

Budget: We've attached a rough estimate (second page) of what our costs will be and are hoping that you can provide some of the funding, though we recognize likely not all of it. Our priorities would be covering travel, printing and food over honourariums (favourable, but ultimately optional) or organizing costs (our fuel or childcare), which would come out of our pockets.

Confirmed Funding: none

Potential Funding: CUPE 3906 – First Nations Solidarity Working Group (Printing Costs), PAC

Common Principles & Meeting Funding Requirements: Our group consists of just two individuals living in so-called Hamilton. Both of us are unaffiliated with any professional organization or campaign and have called to land defense based on our personal beliefs & culture, which we work on from a de-colonization perspective. We aim to organize a gathering where our ultimate goal is to offer information, help facilitate and support connections and empower individuals to work together and take action collectively and co-operatively instead of trying to appropriate or represent their interests. Any donation will directly affect the ability for us to involve First Nation and help them work towards uniting and resisting exploitation and oppression locally, regionally and throughout Turtle Island.
