thanks for passing on those essays peter. i enjoyed both of them. my
initial thoughts are the "The Words, The words..." maybe compliments the
CBU resource a bit better, if that's something we're going for. i also
really liked that they're both shorter but denser readings.
i heard back from an academic friend that does work on language
revitalization and so I've been looking through a few different pieces. i
haven't been able to read through these in enough detail yet, but they look
promising!
*Learning to be a Nehiyaw (Cree) through Language* by Belinda Daniels-Fiss
(attached)
*Negotiating Metis Culture in Michif: Disrupting Indigenous Language
Shift*by Judy Iseke
http://decolonization.org/index.php/des/article/view/19587/17017
Not from the Canadian context, which I would prefer, but it may help to
raise other related questions.* Towards the Universal Struggle of
Language*(it's the Introduction from Decolonizing the Mind: The
Politics of Language
in African Literature) by Nqugi wa Thiong' o http://www.swaraj.org/ngugi.htm
... and also, i came across a resource that's more related to our last
workshop. it's great and really works to deepen some of the ideas Thomas
King raised and that have been circulating in our discussions. perhaps we
could make it available as a follow up resource.
Indigenous Storytelling, Truth-telling, and Community Approaches to
Reconcilliation by Jeff Corntassel, Chaw-win-is and T'lakwadzi (attached)
all on this for now!
