Hello everyone:
I hope everyone is doing okay as I'm sure everyone is quite busy. I am just
checking in with everyone to gauge capacity over the next little while, and
provide everyone a brief description of the meeting we had 1.5 weeks ago.
Peter filled us in on some previous discussions folks had about making the
budget a little more precise and adding a few more lines to it to make some
distinctions among our funding priorities. I think the general consensus
seems to be that this is probably a pretty good idea that we should revisit
at a future meeting.
We talked briefly about a couple of other things, one sort of long term,
and the other short term. I brought up the idea of crafting a statement
about the need for a public inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous
women in Canada and bringing it forward to the next general membership
meeting. I thought we could attempt to write something in a future meeting
so that the local can pass it and maybe we can email it out over the union
listserv as well as our own networks. In terms of the long term, Peter
mentioned the possibility of producing some sort of literature piece based
on research done for the workshop many of us participated in in August. It
sounded like others in the group had thought this might be a good idea and
Peter, Marguerite, and I talked about how we also thought it would a good
idea to try and organize another workshop and sort of devote the working
group's energy to getting that off the ground. Not sure where folks are it
or what they think about this idea, but perhaps we can talk about it at the
next meeting.
The documentary is a pretty amazing creation. I am happy we supported that
project. Amanda also performed a spoken word poem in Toronto on Saturday
at the Anti-Line 9 rally that was quite incredible. Must be footage
somewhere out there of it.
I'm wondering if anyone is available to meet for a couple hours either this
Saturday or Sunday to catch up and see where people are at and how they
feel about the group's direction. It is sort of short notice, I know, which
is my fault, but if you do have some time, please email the group. I was
thinking we maybe could get lucky and snag a comfortable space in either
the Brain or Mulberry.
Thanks,
Tony
