Hi team,
I can put this together real quick right now and send it to Melissa, if it's not weird that it's coming from a non-member. Unless I hear otherwise, I willwrite it and send it to her right now.
Thanks for being on top of this Jess,

Quick follow up-- I just realized that the next GMM is this coming Wednesday. Is anyone able to put together a report for the working group? Typically the reports just update the membership on the activity of the working group since the last GMM and any upcoming plans. I assume the donations reporting also applies to us, however we haven't made a donation since September so I'm not sure how important it is to include at this point. Perhaps, given our discussions today it would be best to include them ($500 to line 9 support, $500 to grassroots media production, $200 to MFNSA). What do others think?
The report should be sent to Malissa Phung <recordingsecretary at cupe3906.org> by tomorrow, but sending it Tuesday probably wouldn't be an issue.
Let me know, thanks,
j.

Copy and pasting these because my guess is that the attachment wouldn't send...
Feel free to add and re-send--the minutes are a bit brief so I may very well have forgotten some details.

ISWG Meeting Minutes – November 10, 2013 at 2pm
In attendance: Jessica, Peter, Tony, Marguerite
Updates:
1)
Missing and Murdered Aboriginal Women - Peter is
touching base with Sisters in Spirit, Myka Burning and the National campaign.
Others will continue to look into touching base with local folks who are doing
this work.
2)
Elsipogtog – may have more funding needs in the future. Peter
will be in touch to offer support and they can assess how to proceed.
Projects:
1) Funding Guidelines – working guidelines read as
follows. Jess will send to the email address so they are on hand to send to
groups that get in touch with us for funds.
Thank you for
getting in contact with us. Below are some questions we’d like to pose to your
group in the spirit of building relationships of solidarity. There are no wrong
answers. We pose these questions to make space for us to share our analyses. We
look forward to engaging these issues with you and to finding ways to
collaborate.
1) How is the project you’re working on decolonizing?
What is your understanding of decolonization?
2) How does your project confront power
structures, such as capitalism, patriarchy, racism, white supremacy,
colonialism, heterosexism, ableism, etc.?
3) What is your likelihood of finding funding
elsewhere? What other groups are you collaborating with on this project?
4) Are there other forms of assistance that would
be helpful for you? For example, transportation assistance, photocopying or
promotional assistance.
2)
Workshop Series:
Logistics: Nov.30 and Dec. 7 as
possible dates—decided on Dec. 7th to give adequate notice for folks
to read in advance. Time: 2-5pm. Location: Options are Artbar and the James
Street Bookseller. Tony will contact Artbar, Peter will contact Bookseller and
report back via email. Back ups: booking a room on campus, or the basement of
the Green Smoothie Bar.
Theme: Language and Decolonization—Niki
relayed that the focus was going to be on how language and stories shape the
ways we think about and understand the world, using Thomas King’s ‘The Truth
About Stories’ (book/audio).
Contacting Folks: drafted a call out
(below). Jess will get contacts from Niki and send out by Tuesday this week. Decided
we’ll send it to folks to have attended the first workshop/allyship workshop
and other people we know who are working on issues of decolonization.
Other related tasks: Jess will also
talk to Niki to confirm she can facilitate and see if she is open to attending
the next meeting, where we’ll be discussing/planning the workshop in more
detail (+ get notes on workshop intentions).
Someone will draft a follow up email to
send out to the group in a week’s time, which will include: location
confirmation, brief re-cap of the last workshop (peter), reminder of some of
the intentions for the series (jess).
Everyone will read/listen to the audio
recordings before next meeting on Nov. 24.
Saturday, December 7:
Language and Decolonization workshop; The Truth About Stories, by Thomas King
First off, sorry we
didn’t follow up on the announced workshop back in September. Some members of
the working group had personal issues come up that cut into our capacity. But
for the fall and winter, we’re really excited to pick back up the idea of a series
of workshops delving further into issues of decolonization and Indigenous solidarity.
As we’d planned
before, the next workshop in this series will deal with the theme of Language and Decolonization, using
Thomas King’s book, The Truth About Stories, as a starting point. This text is
available in the library or in audio format, read by the author, here.
We’re sending this
callout to people who have either attended the solidarity and allyship workshop
in the summer or who are also working on issues of decolonization. Please feel
free to send this along to people you know who are also engaged in this work
and who might be interested.
We’re planning this
workshop for 2-5pm on December 7th, at a location to be announced. Early
next week, we’ll be sending around another note to confirm the location and to
refresh ourselves on some of the intentions of this series.
Looking forward to
seeing you soon,
