The situation at the Unist'ot'en camp in so-called British Columbia (B.C.)
is moving toward an escalation point.

The RCMP have threatened the Unist'ot'en camp volunteers, while Chevron has
ramped up its attempts to start building the Pacific Trails Pipeline on
unceded Wet'suwet'en territories.

The Wet'suwet'en have clearly stated their opposition to this
environmentally destructive project on their unceded territory, but the
pipeline companies and the RCMP have turned a tin ear towards them.

The RCMP were created[1] in order to serve and protect the settler
invasion. They continue to do their job as Indian Killers and seek to
protect corporations, private property and the State. The context of police
brutality is one of the maintenance and protection of the settler colonial
invasion. It is not just Indigenous people who face a colonial context of
police brutality, as in the United Snakes Black women are being lynched in
their jail cells by Killer Kops !! #SayHerName

We stand also in the wake of the murder of #PaulCastaway
<https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/paulcastaway>, a young Lakota man who
struggled with mental health, was recently shot dead by the Denver police.

In this frightening climate of expanding police states and frequent
incidents of police brutality it is important that we show we are not going
to stand by and let it happen.

The RCMP are trained to use violent force in order to facilitate the
capitalist industries' resource-plundering, as seen in their most recent
extrajudicial murder of a Site C dam protester in Dawson Creek, B.C. We
must to be vigilant and stand unified in our opposition to their
exploitation.

In addition to the RCMP's abuses of power, here in Montreal we have grown
accustomed to the face of police repression by the SPVM. We have been
repeatedly denied our freedoms by a series of authoritarian laws and by the
SPVM's blatant use of excessive force on a regular basis. On Saturday SPVM
shut down a queer dance party and then beat and arrested attendees on the
streets – this shows how pervasive and normalized police violence has
become in our communities.

We condemn the police's differential targeting of marginalized, racialized
and low-income communities across Turtle Island.

We recognize that the police are designed to protect and maintain the
oppressive colonial state, fuelled by violence and dispossession.

We remember that the RCMP was created to be the strong arm of a genocidal
project to exterminate and imprison the Indigenous people of these
territories and that their actions against the Wet'suwet'en represent an
act of war in the context of an ongoing project of colonization.

We recognize the Black genocide on Turtle Island and understand that the
occupation of Indigenous lands is not possible without the exploitation &
dehumanization of Black bodies. We support struggles of Black liberation
and resistance to colonial police violence embodied in movements of
#BlackLivesMatter <https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/blacklivesmatter> &
#SayHerName

We refuse to tolerate police abuses of power and the day-to-day acts of
police violence that allow for the continued colonization of Turtle Island
and the environmental devastation of capitalist expansion.

Join us this Friday, July 24th, at 5pm to stand in Solidarity with the
Wet'suwet'en people at the Unist'ot'en camp and to denounce all acts of
police brutality!

La situation au camp Unist'ot'en dans la soi-disant Colombie-Britannique
(C. -B.) évolue vers une situation de haute tension.

La GRC a menacé des bénévoles du camp Unist'ot'en, alors que Chevron
multiplie ses tentatives de commencer à construire le Pacific Trails
Pipeline sur les territoires non cédés du peuple Wet'suwet'en.

Les Wet'suwet'en ont clairement affirmé leur opposition à ce que ce projet
destructeur se construise sur leur territoire, mais les compagnies de
pipelines et la GRC leur font la sourde oeille. La GRC a été créée dans le
but de servir et protéger l'invasion coloniale. Ils/elles continuent de
remplir leur rôle en tant tueurs/tueuses d'autochtones et visent à protéger
les corporations, la propriétée privée et l'État. Le contexte de brutalité
policière en est un de maintien et de protection de l'invasion coloniale.
Les peuples autochtones ne sont pas les seuls à faire face à ce contexte
colonial de brutalité policière, comme aux Serpents Unis (United Snakes) où
des femmes noires sont lynchées dans leur cellule par des flics assassins
!! #SayHerName #JusticeforSandraBland

Nous manifestons aussi dans le contexte du meurtre de #PaulCastaway, un
jeune homme lakota qui faisait face à des problèmes de santé mentale, qui a
été fusillé par la police de Denver.

Dans ce climat de terreur d'expansion des États policiers et d'incidents
fréquents de brutalité policière, c'est très important que nous démontrions
que nous n'allons pas les laisser faire sans réagir.

La GRC est entraînée à utiliser la puissance de la violence dans le but de
faciliter le pillage des ressources par les industries capitalistes, comme
ce fut le cas lors de leur meurtre extra-juridique d'un manifestant contre
le Site C à Dawson Creek, C. -B. Nous devons être vigilantEs et nous unir
dans notre opposition à leur exploitation.

En plus des abus de pouvoir de la GRC, à Montréal, nous avons été habitué à
faire face à la répression policière par le SPVM. Nous avons vu nos
libertés être bafouées par une série de lois autoritaires et par l'usage
fréquent par le SPVM d'une force excessive. Samedi dernier, le SPVM a forcé
l'arrêt d'un party de danse queer et a battu et arrêté des participant.e.s
dans les rues – cela démontre comment la violence policière est perpétuée
et normalisée dans nos communautés.

Nous dénonçons comment la police cible particulièrement les communautés
marginalisées, racialisées et à faible revenu partout sur l'île de la
Tortue.

Nous reconnaissons que la police a été créée dans le but de protéger et de
maintenir les États coloniaux oppressifs, États qui carburent à la violence
et à la dépossession.

Nous nous souvenons que la GRC a été créée pour être le bras armé d'un
projet génocidaire visant à exterminer et à emprisonner les peuples
autochtones de ces territoires et considérons que leurs actions contre les
Wet'suwet'en sont un acte de guerre dans le contexte d'un projet colonial
qui se poursuit.

Nous reconnaissons le génocide des Noir.e.s sur l'île de la Tortue et
comprenons que l'occupation des territoires autochtones est impossible sans
l'exploitation et la déshumanisation des corps noir.e.s. Nous soutenons les
mouvements de libération et de résistance des Noir.e.s contre la violence
de la police coloniale, mouvements qui s'incarnent entre autres dans
#BlackLivesMatter et #SayHerName

Nous refusons de tolérer les abus de pouvoir de la police et la violence
policière quotidienne qui permet la continuité de la colonisation de l'île
de la Tortue et la dévastation environnementale causée par l'expansion du
capitalisme.
