The Vancouver Media Co-op has received a leaked copy of the Canadian
Boreal Forest Agreement, which was announced yesterday in Toronto
<http://vancouver.mediacoop.ca/story/3444> .

Click here to download the 39 page agreement
<http://vancouver.mediacoop.ca/sites/mediacoop.ca/files2/mc/CBF_leak.pdf>
, which is marked "confidential." Note that the attachment does not
include "schedules" including maps. We'll post it as soon as it becomes
available.

****

The following analysis of just how astounding this sell-out is was written
by a friend, who in the interests of not getting sued, shall not be named:

The big lie is that ENGO's and industry are saying that logging and road
building is suspended on 29,000,000 ha when in reality only 72,205 ha
(0.02% of the total area or an area slightly larger than the city of
Toronto) has been "deferred" for three years.

Industry wasn't even going to log about 28,000,000ha (or 97%) of their
remote logging tenures in woodland caribou range in the first place.

And industry STILL gets to log 684,461 ha in woodland caribou range! (See
page 28 of the legal text for the numbers).

In exchange for this pathetic "victory" not only do the ENGO's suspend
their divestment and "do not buy" campaigns, the ENGO's also commit to
WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH INDUSTRY TO SILENCE OR EVEN SUE ANY "THIRD
PARTIES" WHO "MAY TAKE A POSITION OR MAKE PUBLIC STATEMENT THAT ARE
CONTRARY TO THE PRINCIPLES AND INTENT OF THE CBFA [Canadian Boreal Forest
Agreement]" (See Section 12 on page 38).
