Offsetting Resistance (www.offsettingresistance.ca), a report by Dru Oja Jay
and Macdonald Stainsby, examines the effects of foundation funding on
resistance to clearcutting in the Great Bear Rainforest in the 1990s, and
looks at the plans the same groups and funding bodies have for the tar
sands, the largest and most destructive industrial project in human
history.
In a short presentation, co-author Dru Oja Jay discusses the scenario of
grassroots resistance diverted into closed-door negotations, ultimately
resulting in a deal that many observers say sold the movement short.
The presentation will be followed by an open discussion about Environmental
NGOs, funding, democracy and accountability.
Copies of the report will be distributed to those in attendance.
* Le présentation sera en Anglais. Des questions et des commentaires en
Français sont bienvenus. *
