Given the seriousness of Jaggi's charges, I think it only fair to pass on
Maya's response.

Subject: Response to Jaggi Singh's Charges of Slander

(By now most people who received the original email entitled "URGENT MESSAGE
to the supporters of the 2110 Centre for Gender Advocacy." If you did not
manage to see it and would like to, or have yet to see recent updates,
visit: http://www.2110democracy.ca/.)

Today, Jaggi Singh has written to many of those who endorsed the letter,
urging them to reconsider their endorsement.

More importantly, he has characterized the claims made in our letter as
"slanderous". This is a very serious charge that he has leveled against us.
It means that our statements are false and malicious.

Jaggi Singh has also urged people to consider what people on the other side
have to say. We also encourage this.

Unfortunately, Jaggi Singh has not taken his own advice before advancing
such grave charges against us publicly. He has not spoken to any of the
authors of the letter.

For the content of our letter to be slanderous, one of the following
statements would have to be the case:

* That there is not an understanding at the 2110 Centre to the effect that
"it's okay for staff to take a paycheck without fulfilling the basic
requirements of their jobs."

* That it is not true that "some staff have taken advantage of these
resources, in what is
tantamount to theft of student and activist resources."

* That it is false that "there are some whose vision of the center is as a
place for a few
to derive social and economic benefits."

* That the "misappropriation of funds" and "abuse of power" have not
occurred at the Centre.

We invite anyone who is well-acquainted with the daily operations of the
2110 Centre (to our knowledge, Jaggi Singh is not among them) to come
forward and publicly assert any of these hypothetical claims. If we're wrong
about this, it would save everyone a lot of trouble.

I encourage anyone who wants more information (including Jaggi Singh) to get
in touch with myself, or any of the original signatories.

Sincerely,

Maya Rolbin-Ghanie
